How we check

Heritage Visits exists to answer one practical question: how to get into a museum, a castle or a cathedral without paying too much or finding the door closed. This page explains how the information is gathered and how the site earns money.

The official ticket office comes first

On every page, the first booking link is the official ticket office of the place, even when it earns us nothing. We only link to the place itself or to authorised sellers. When a guided tour or a skip-the-line ticket sold by a partner is mentioned, it comes after the official option and is labelled as an affiliate link.

Where the facts come from

  • Prices, opening hours, closures and booking rules come from the official site of the place or of its operator.
  • Each fact is stored with its source and the date it was checked. Pages show that date.
  • Prices and opening hours are recorded year by year: a price from a previous year is never shown as the current one.
  • A fact that no official source confirms stays out of the site.

Works of art: where they really are

A painting can be lent to another museum, sent for restoration or put into storage. The page of a work therefore shows its display status with the date it was checked, and only says that a work can be seen when that date is given. If the status has not been confirmed, the page says so.

Images

Photographs of places are real photographs, most of them from Wikimedia Commons under free licences, a few from the press kits of the places. Each carries its author and licence, and the full list is in the “Photo credits” section of the legal notice. Works of art are reproduced only when they are in the public domain or when a licence allows it. Every image of a real place or work is a photograph, never a generated picture.

How the site is funded

Some links to guided tours, partner tickets and accommodation can be affiliate links (GetYourGuide and hotel platforms through Stay22). If you book through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The page tells you before the first affiliate link. No place pays to be listed or ranked, and no commission changes what a page says.

Corrections

Opening hours and prices change. If you spot an error, write to hello@heritagevisits.com with the page concerned: corrections are checked against the official source and published with a new date of verification. We aim to reply within seven days.
