What changes is the part of the Colosseum it opens: the standard ticket covers the first and second levels, and specific tickets add the arena floor, the underground built by Domitian or the attic. You enter at the booked time and stay 75 or 90 minutes. Tickets are issued in your name and go on sale 30 days ahead, 7 days for some products.
The amphitheater itself, built between 72 and 80 under Vespasian and Titus, is an ellipse 189 meters long and 156 wide, and estimates of its audience run from 50,000 to 80,000 spectators. The Roman Forum fills the valley below the Capitoline: the Via Sacra of the triumphs, the Arch of Septimius Severus of 203, the eight columns of the Temple of Saturn and the Curia Iulia, the Senate House that Julius Caesar rebuilt. The Palatine runs from an Iron Age village to the palaces of the emperors, with the House of Augustus, the Farnese Gardens and the Palatine Museum.
What to know before you choose

- Free first Sundays. No booking: tickets are handed out in order of arrival, and the arena, the underground and the upper levels stay closed that day.
- Roma Pass. The park gives card holders a reduced fare on the standard and Only Arena tickets.
