It comes in two lengths, and the longer card does more than add a day of transport: it also doubles the number of free entries. The price of each card is in the price table on this page, and the city page gives one public price per card, with no child rate.
The card is digital. According to the city page, it is available for iOS and Android and is sold in the Roma Pass app (Google Play and App Store) and on the Roma Pass website.
Check the venue list before you pay
The page of Roma Capitale describes what the card gives, not where. It does not name the museums and sites included, and it sends you to the Roma Pass website “for all details”.
It also says nothing on activation, so read the official site for when the 48 or 72 hours start counting.
The city adds a warning of its own, written in capitals: before purchasing the cards, check opening hours, access and booking procedures and timetables on each official website. In practice, that means four checks for every venue you plan to use the card at:
- the opening days and hours
- whether entry needs a booked time
- how card holders get their ticket
- whether the venue gives a free entry or only a reduced rate.
Good to know
The city page does not explain how the card is activated. Read the conditions on the official Roma Pass website before you plan your first day around it.
At the Colosseum: a reduced fare
The Colosseum Archaeological Park lists a “Reduced Roma Pass” fare on two of its tickets, the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket and the Only Arena ticket.
Avoid this mistake
The Colosseum slot does not move. Build your Roma Pass days around that booked time, then fit the Forum and the Palatine before or after it within the 24 hours.

On both pages it is lower than the full entry fare. Neither page lists the card as a free entry. The amounts are in the park’s own ticket table.
What those two tickets give you, according to the park:
- Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine: one entrance to the Colosseum at the booked time, with the first and second levels and the panoramic terraces, then one entrance to the Roman Forum and Palatine area at the time you choose, within 24 hours before or after your Colosseum booking. The stay inside the Colosseum is limited to 75 minutes.
- Only Arena: a 20-minute visit on the floor of the arena, in and out on the Sperone Stern side, with the same 24-hour window for the Forum and the Palatine.
Both tickets carry a fixed time. The park states that you cannot enter the Colosseum at a different time from the one booked. On the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket page it also advises arriving at the Colosseum entrance 15 minutes before that time.
First Sundays at the park
The park takes part in the free admission on the first Sunday of every month, for the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket and for the Forum Pass.
Those free tickets cannot be booked. They are collected in order of arrival at the ticket office in Piazza del Colosseo, near the Temple of Venus and Rome, and at Largo della Salara Vecchia.
The park’s FAQ adds that on these free Sundays, Roma Pass holders also collect their free tickets at the ticket office, in order of arrival. The park does not say whether collecting a free Sunday ticket uses up one of the card’s free entries, so ask before you count on it.
Who gets the most from the card
No figure on this page says the Roma Pass pays for itself, so the reasoning starts from what it contains. The card stacks three things: one or two free entries, reduced rates afterward, and unlimited urban transport for the full 48 or 72 hours.

It suits you best when all three get used.
- You use urban public transport several times a day. The transport part runs for the whole length of the card.
- You plan two paid sites in three days. The 72-hour card gives two free entries against one for the 48-hour card.
- Your trip centers on the Colosseum. There the card gives a reduced fare on the standard and Only Arena tickets, not a free one. Compare that with the full fare in the park’s ticket table.
- You walk everywhere. The transport part goes unused, and the case for the card rests on the entries and reduced rates alone.
Families should note the single public price per card: the city page shows no reduced card for children, so check the official site before buying one for each child.
